That 'right-wing explosives plot'...

...which didn't appear much in the main stream media, but was picked up by the alternative press and quite a lot of bloggers ( good round up of links here from veiled4allah) should be covered today, as it is 23rd October, the day that the two men are due in court, having been remanded in custody since their arrest in the first week of October.

There was consternation in the blogosphere that the arrest of two white men men for allegedly possessing 22 chemical components, a rocket launcher and a' master plan' to make explosives was not covered by the mainstream media. If they had been Muslims, people asked, wouldn't it have been front page news? As it was, it made the local papers and a quick para in the Sunday Times.

Anyway, I just chased up the BBC and the Mirror who are 'on it', apparently. Let's see what unfolds over the next 24 hours.

UPDATE; Case adjourned until tomorrow. There really is no excuse not to cover it this time around, ho hum.

I have been waiting for this day since I read on one of the blogs that the BBC promised (maybe two weeks ago) they would cover it today.

I keep looking at the BBC website hoping to see it.

I believe the case was adjourned till today (24th October). So let's see if it gets reported in the media now.

Hope your faith in your beloved BBC isn't shaken with their completely shocking (in my view anyway) failure to report this story - until the last possible moment (although so far still nothing...)

As others all over the net are saying, can you imagine if this were a Muslim household.

Anon, as has been explained at length, the local police sat on the story, and most of the news outlets missed it,it was only in 2 local papers, they were not charged under a terrorism offence but under the explosives act, the BBC and other outlets are now covering it, I have personally chased the BBC about it, twice, and the Mirror, the hearing was adjourned from yesterday and should be today,

and yes, I made the point about Muslims when I first blogged out it 3 weeks ago. I also poured scorn on the over hyped liquid explosives plot. So I am not sure what your point is?

The excuses I got from the BBC about why they didn't cover this story is just about the most pathetic I have ever seen from them.

As for the BBC now covering it - I think I must have blinked and missed it.

This is brings to mind the classic question? How much does the media lead - how much does it follow.

Islamic terrorism - not just terrorism - is on the public's agenda. That's reflected in the news we get.

What would you have - journalists picking their stories on the gounds of what's good for us? Putting aside readership and viewer figures for higher purpose - fairness, equality and the truth.

Good god. Imagine if that caught on.

And there's very little you can say about a straight-up-and-down court appearance. The juicy, and newsworthy, evidence will appear during the full trial I'm sure...

FAO: 'Dh**mi W*t*h'

I don't publicise pig-ignorant race hate, ill-informed spam, vicious trolling, or personal abuse. You'll have to try elsewhere I'm afraid. Bye!

I've yet to "get on to" this story myself but am aware that others who know what they are doing are. Might this turn out to be a sad case of Muslim extremists being "sexy" in media terms just now and other types being deemed dull? It wouldn't surprise me, I'm afraid.

The lack of public awareness about this story just proves even more to me about how much we are being manipulated by the media/government. The lack of information about this is a national scandal. BBC should be ashamed for the biased role they are playing in the so-called "war on Terror".

As the accused are involved with the BNP, this ought to be treated as important news. While the BNP will always, to me, be a bunch of fascist crackpots, they are getting worryingly influential. They should not even have a single council seat in this country. The fact that many of their elected officials have criminal records, often with violence involved, tends to pass the media by, while Nick Griffin actually gets treated like a serious politician. This story shows them for what they truly are.

I've just listened to the news on Radio 4 and their coverage of the Lancashire "bomb-plotters". The case seems to be getting wide coverage now. Perhaps back in October 2006 the Police were concerned widespread publicity might provoke a violent back-lash from the large Pakistani/ Muslim population in the region
