Argh, help, blog template issues

The blog template has gone wrong again: I tried to paste in a poll and now it is all out of whack. I have tried to compare all the code to a new blog template to see where I went wrong but I cannot work it out. I'm sorry to be such a goose, but does anyone know how to sort it out?

*flaps*

Blogger is supposed to be simple but it is a bit limited. As an experiment, perhaps, try the post on one of their different templates. It might show you what went wrong. Then you can go back to your usual template. Without actually seeing it, I wouldn't know what to adjust.

Happens all the sodding time. Sometimes it goes screwy even when you haven't changed anything.

The only question is where were you trying to put it - the sidebar, as a regular post, or somewhere else?

Not that I'll be any help either way... I'm crap at these things.

I tried to put it as a side bar. Then I took it out again.

But :-(

I thought maybe if I sent the blog template code to someone who understood these things? - I have already started a new blog in order to compare the templates
( which is like reading Greek to me) but it didn't work, and when I tried to make change s it just went even more haywire, so as I have no idea what I am doing, I thought I had better just stop and see if anyone had any good ideas.

You could try our man Devil's Kitchen - he's a designer in the real world. Or try and make sense of the data you get out of this thing:

http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/

Either that, or wait until the morning blog rush - you've almost certainly got a few friendly readers who'd be happy to help out. But if you'd ever seen the source code for my place, you'd see I'm the last person to offer coding advice...

Still - doesn't seem to be too bad - you should see what my place looks like in IE4...

I'm willing to have a look at it for you if you like, although I won't guarantee success. I'm not bad at html but pretty rubbish at CSS. I can either try to see if the poll works on my blog, or start a test blog. If you want me to try, send me the template or poll to davidsimonetti2003@yahoo.co.uk

R will do it for you in a minute. Stop panicking :-) He just has to get my mail to him about it. You will need to allow him access tou your template though. Of course it has to go doing this before Sunday!

Hmm...it always helps to save a copy of your template in wordpad as a rich text file...then you can copy and paste back if it goes wrong.

Email me, I'll see what has gone wonky.

So glad you got it sorted, hooray and roll on Sunday x. I am looking forward to reading your beautiful and moving work. I mean it, you prevent people perverting the course of history. I work with the old documents. Voices like yours are terribly important. Keep it up. I know we're a lone voice in the darkness sometimes. Still, be strong, take heart, keep it up. xx

For anyone who cannot speak German, the above comment is a bunch of anti-semitic garbage from someone who is definately part of the problem.

Slagging off the masons and all. I've met a number of masons, and they've all been very pleasant.

Still, posting in German on an English blog would tend to suggest - idiotic conspiracy theories aside - that they're hardly the sharpest tool in the box. A tool, certainly...

Rachel, if the worry is about where your sidebar went, the answer is probably that it was put out of whack by that very long link in the post below. I recommend you put it in a hyperlink or go to tinyurl.com to convert it into a shorter link. Reposting it as hyperlinked word or as a shorter url thread will probably restore your sidebar.

er... masons are not all pleasant, and to sing the praises of. Yet the German is confused.
This is not an invitation for a Special Branch Freemason discussion I have no idea what aprons they wore/wear and never focus upon this aspect.
